HONOMU, Hawaii: Trying to map out the road to Honomu’s revitalization… the most important thing – the z factor in all this – is perhaps the most obvious… The people, right across the street from these stores we see them washing their cars. Or, like we showed you at the start of our report, gathering for the annual Bon Dance.
Peter Mclaren says it can be a challenge trying to strike a balance between downtown commerce and residential interests, but he has hope that will change over time.
Brudda Skibs sees it as the area’s greatest asset.
All refurbished storefronts and scenic waterfalls aside, it soon becomes apparent that it is the people that make these plantation era-towns on the Hamakua Coast so special… yesterday, and today.
