BANGOR, Maine: U.S. West champ Hilo beat Northeast/Fraternal Northwest 7-1, to go undefeated at 4-0 in Senior League Pool B, securing a trip to the semifinals.
Hilo pitchers Jarett Kitaoka (three innings pitched), Quintin Torres-Costa (one inning), and Keenan Nishioka (two innings) kept the Michigan lineup hitless through five innings, according to a write up on the Senior League Baseball World Series website. The story says that “in the 2003 World Series, five Hilo, Hawaii, pitchers combined to no-hit Europe-Middle East-Africa champ Moscow, Russia. That team from Hilo went on the win the series.”
Chayce Kaaua led the Hilo hitters, going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in, and a run scored.
The website also contains audio from a post game interview with Hilo players and coaches.
Senior League is one of six divisions of Little League Baseball and is for players ages 14 through 16.
This year’s championship game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
