HONOKAA, Hawaii: A brushfire burned about 5 acres along the 4.5 mile marker Honokaa – Waipio Road on Thursday.
Hawaii County Fire officials say it took less than four hours to put the fire out, despite the fanning tradewinds that threatened to push the fast moving fire mauka towards Highway 240.
When fire crews first arrived at 12:25 p.m., they found flames and thick smoke on 2 acres of farmland. Firefighters were able to contain the fire from spreading in about 2 hours.
Chopper 1 helped out by dropping water from the air.
The cause of the fire is unknown. No one was reported hurt in the blaze.
