KONA, Hawaii – Hawaii was treated to its first civilian airshow in the skies over Kona International Airport on Saturday and Sunday.
Daring aerobatic performances and astonishing aircraft were all on display. Organizers say the event was years in the making.
Fying in via their “bat wing suits” – parachuting down for the final few thousand feet: The Pembertons, Melissa and Rex, providing a death-defying highlight of the day.
For a first time event, things went smoothly, but not without a glitch or two. The Pacific Air Forces Aerial Demonstration Team’s F-16 fighter demo was reportedly cut short due to a communication issue.
The airshow also had to share the runway with the regular operations of the commercial airlines at the airport.
Organizers announced that the airshow already plans to return next year.
