Things were cooking at the Kohala Intergenerational Center in Kapa’au on Saturday.
Ka Hana No`eau held its annual “Ka Ulu Ana: Securing Our Future” event at the Kamehameha Park location.
One of the main events was the Chili Challenge, which featured ten teams comprised of local politicians, county officials and radio broadcasting personalities.
There was also a “Best Salad Contest”. Both contests featured locally produced grass-fed ground beef and salad greens. In fact, the beef and greens were raised by Ka Hana No`eau students as part of their Animal Husbandry and Sustainable Gardening mentorship programs.
The program has been made possible through a U.S. Dept. of Education – Native Hawaiian Education Act (USDOE-NHEA) grant in partnership with Partners in Development Foundation an the Kohala Intergenerational Center.
