A 52-year-old Kailua-Kona man has died after being found unresponsive Friday (April 1) in waters off of the Kona Coast. The victim has been identified as George Nalimu.
Kona patrol officers who responded learned that the victim’s body had been found floating face down by a dive boat at approximately 1015 a.m., and approximately 100 yards from the shoreline outside of Pawai Bay fronting Queen Lili‘uokalani Children’s Center. The dive boat transported the victim to Honokāhau Harbor where HFD rescue personnel determined that the victim had no sign of life and was unable to be resuscitated.
Nalimu was later transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Nalimu had last been seen alone picking opihi and still had his opihi knife and a bag of opihi with him when his body was found.
Police have classified the investigation as a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
