The leeward coast of North Kohala has been a model of open space preservation, and has become the largest coastline system in the state of Hawaii.
One of the reasons it has been such a shining example: the work of the Kohala community members, like Gail Byrne, whose nomination to the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Committee was recently passed through the county council Finance Committee.
In this video, Byrne shares some insights as to why the preservation effort on the north end of the island is so successful.
