It was a shut gun start at The American Heart Association’s 2011 Hilo Start! Heart Walk at Liliuokalani Gardens Park on Saturday morning.
Thousands used their feet to raise funds for heart disease research and awareness.
After circling past the gardens, participants headed up Lihiwai Street and crossed over to Kamehameha Avernue before returning along the Hilo Bayfront.
Of course, the day was more than just walking. A health fair, taiko drums, even a dunk tank were all set up at the event. As always B-97 radio personality Darrin Carlson served as the MC.
According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans.
The Hawaii County Office of the Mayor contributed video to this report. (look closely, you may see Mayor Billy Kenoi taking a dunk at the hands of an accurate young pitcher.)
