Big Island police are investigating an incident of vandalism in Hilo.
A 59-year-old Hilo man reported that an unknown person put a substance into the gas tank of his pickup truck, causing $24,000 in damages. The tampering occurred sometime between January 16 and January 20 while the truck was parked in front of a business on Wiwo’ole Street. The victim is offering a $5,000 reward.
Police ask that anyone with information about this case call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
