Mernicki followed his record setting first round 62 with a 3-under-par 69 to lead the 113-player field at 13-under-par 131. Oklahoma State’s KevinTway jumped from fifth place to second place firing a 6-under-par 66 today for a two-round 133 or 11-under par.
Texas Tech’s Tyler Weworski (70-65) and USC’s Sam Smith (66-69) are two-strokes back at 9-under-par 135.
Oklahoma State jumped into the team lead with a 273 to end the second round at 25-under-par 551. UCLA is second (558) followed by Texas Tech (559), Georgia Tech and Texas (560), Arizona State (561), USC (563), TCU, UC Davis and Oregon (568), Stanford (571), Washington (573), Oregon State and Colorado (576), San Francisco and San Jose State (580), Western Washington (584), Hawaii Manoa (587), Hawaii Hilo (588) and Florida State (589).
Neil Cabico leads the Vulcans and is tied for 30th place at 2-under-par 142 (72-70). He is followed by Travis Russell (T66, 73-73=146), NickMatsushima (T82, 71-77=148), Blake Snyder (T105, 74-80=154) and Christian Agosto (110th, 79-78=157).
Also in field and playing as individuals are Chris Shimomura (T88, 75-74=149), Corey Kozuma (T102, 76-76=152 ) and Chris Armanini (114 81-85=166).
