The week-long celebration of Kona coffee came to an end this weekend, with the Kamehameha Schools Kona Coffee Grand Parade.
On Saturday morning, participants marched down Alii Drive from the Royal Kona Resort to Old Airport.
Leading the way: the Festival’s Board of Directors and the venerable chair, Norman Sakata.
Bobby Command, Executive Assistant to Hawai‘i County Mayor Billy Kenoi, followed close behind.
Also featured in the parade: Dolphin Journeys float, Kamehameha Pre-School, Kona Coffee Pioneers, Shriners, Miss Kona Coffee Lacy Deniz, Leche de Tigre, the Hawaii Horse Owners Association from Hilo, the Kona Coffee Farmer’s Association, Kamehameha School Bands, Hibiscus Jam singing group, and the Daifukuji Soto Mission Taiko Drummers.
The title sponsor of the event, Kamehammeha Schools, plays a big role – not only in the festival – but in the entire Kona coffee industry. Karin Stanton has more.
