A volunteer group of painters, both professional and novice, are making a beautification concept for Downtown Hilo a reality.
Under the direction of artist Kathleen Kam, this mural – 8 feet tall and 38 feet wide – is coming to life. Nearing completion, the huge acrylic painting located on the wall of the newly refurbished KTA building is getting lots of attention.
The project is the result of a collaboration between the Downtown Improvement Association and the East Hawaii Cultural Center. The hope is that the project will serve as a template for a city-wide beautification … a campaign entitled “One Wall At a Time”
For now, the artists are focused on the finishing touches for this mural, a project that Kam says has been gratifying.
