The Ford Ironman World Championship has not one but TWO famous parades in Kailua-Kona.
The more distinguished Parade of Nations was held Tuesday night.
On Thursday morning, the traditional “underpants run” features a sarcastic jaunt of male and female athletes in their skivvies, BVDs or tighty whiteys.
About 299 athletes bare (almost) all for the one mile run in Kailua Kona, with proceeds benefiting the Special Olympics of West Hawaii and the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii.
Race Day is Saturday, starting 7am at Kailua Pier. The rest of us can watch for road closures and detours much of the day. One good tip: avoid the Queen Kaahumanu Highway.
