The Malaai Culinary Garden of the Waimea Middle School got a little extra help on Saturday.
Volunteers with local Slow Food Hawaii Chapters volunteered at the school garden to help remove invasive weeds, and clear the fertile land for more plantings.
Similar efforts were held at school gardens at Honokaa, Kealakehe High, Kona Pacific, Kohala Elementary, and Innovations Public Charter School.
Volunteers were encouraged to bring gardening gloves, clippers, and a food dish, for a community potluck when the work was finished.
