Scott “Hendo” Henderson – Republican

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Scott Henderson earned the nickname “Hendo” growing up in the south suburbs. According to his campaign website, Henderson graduated from DePauw University in 1977 with a degree in Economics, and later managed two small businesses. He also served as a police officer, and in 1980 became a Special Agent with the FBI. In 2004 he was transferred to the Honolulu Field Office and was assigned to the Kona Resident Agency on the Big Island. He retired in 2005. (4 minutes) |
Cindy Evans – Democrat

Representative Cindy Evans is serving her fourth term in the legislature. According to her website, Evans was raised in a college town, home of the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois. After high school, she moved to Seattle, Washington. She has been living for the past 11 years. Evans serves as House Majority Floor Leader, and she is also a member of the following committees: Agriculture, Tourism, Culture & International Affairs, Economic Revitalization, Business, & Military Affairs, and Legislative Management. Maegan MacGregor

Maegan MacGregor was born and raised in Kona and has been working in Waimea for the past 14 years. She graduated from UH-Hilo, and is now a teacher at Waimea Elementary School. Evans “T.A.T.” The Transient Accomodations Tax was implemented to provided money to market Hawaii as a tourist destination and to recupe some of the costs the counties incur for providing services to tourists – such as roads, water, sewer, firefighters, police and more. Last year the state legislature tried to take the revenue away from the counties ($18 million for Hawaii County). How should the TAT money be distributed? (1 minute) |
