The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association held meetings on the Big Island this week to review the plan for the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale Sanctuary.
The statewide series of scoping meetings intends to gather community input on a new visioning document that will cover the next decade of operations at the sanctuary.
NOAA is considering new recommendations for the sanctuary, like expanding its size or adding new species to the protected sea life list, joining the humpback whale.
About 25 people attended the meeting in Hilo.
