The former sugar lands in Kapulena are being prepared for a new era in Hamakua agriculture.
This county bulldozer is paving the way for a massive community agriculture project.
The mayor anounced the project last year, after critics rallied against his plan to balance the budget by selling the lands. The county has a lot of work ahead… This land, once a productive part of sugar country, is now overgrown with ironwood and ginea grass.
After the county refurbishes the necesary infrastrcture, the farming community will join in the effort.
We’ll have more on this project next week, including video from a recent media tour of the area.
