The Downtown Hilo area was shaken by a violent machete attack that occurred on Wednesday night.
Police say they responded to a 6:22 p.m. report of a man bleeding from the hand on Keawe Street, and South Hilo Patrol officers were initially unable to locate the victim but later found him at a home on Wainaku Street.
The 21-year-old victim reported that while he was at Kalākaua Park, unknown men attacked him and one struck him in the arm with a machete. The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released for his injuries.
Police quickly canvassed the area, following the blood trail down Keawe street, asking locals patronizing some of the downtown shops and restaurants if they witnessed any of the disturbance.
In this video, Hawaii247.com’s Baron Sekiya interviewed a man who says he spoke to the victim shortly after the attack, as police searched the area for clues.
The investigation is continuing.
