Only a few days after he resigned his position as Mayor of Honolulu in order to officially file to run for Governor of Hawaii, Mufi Hannemann opened his Kona campaign headquarters.
A crowd of supporters gathered at the new Kopiko Street location, right next to The Club on Palani Road, to hear the local music of L.T. Smooth, as well as the candidate himself.
“Hawaii needs a leader with a proven track record of working together with neighbor island leaders as the Mayor of Honolulu,” said Ken Ono, Hannemann campaign coordinator for West Hawaii, in a later media release. “Mufi not only understands the unique problems faced by each island, but he also brings real solutions to the table. The Punalu‘u Bakeshop and Visitors Center is an example of his previous contributions to the Big Island economy. Since his Big Island roots run deep, we’re always very happy to have him here in Kona.”
Hannemann is facing off with former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie for the Democratic nomination for governor.
