The 21st annual Big Island Hawaiian Music Festival was held at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo this weekend, where local music legends and island halau entertained an audience over a two day period.
The full line-up of artists included Brittni Paiva, Cyril Pahanui, Diana Aki, Ben Kaili, John Keawe, Ozzie Kotani, and Ku’uipo Kumukahi, among others. The event honored the memory of Uncle George Naope.
In this video, Halau Hula O Kahikilaulani performed under the debut direction of kumu hula Nahokuokalani Gaspang, who has taken over the guidance of the Hilo halau following the March death of his own mentor, kumu hula Rae Fonseca.
The event was presented by the East Hawaii Cultural Council.
