On Memorial Day afternoon, several war veterans and labor leaders gathered at Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo to rally around their plan to construct a memorial in honor of the Hawaii Island residents who fell in various U.S. conflicts.
In this video, Vietnam War Purple Heart Veteran Emile Wery explains the scope and design of the memorial.
The idea has drawn some criticism from groups who say that the Liliuokalani Japanese style peace garden is not the right location for the project. During the video, Wery answers the critics.
