Testifiers voiced their disapproval of the proposed county budget at a special Council meeting on Thursday.
Mayor Billy Kenoi’s $376 million dollar amended budget for the upcoming fiscal year has been submitted to the council, and those who spoke at the meeting had a number of complaints.
A large portion of the crowd was comprised of marijuana advocates, who criticized spending done by the police department, and threatened that the county could face more civil lawsuits over perceived conflicts with the Peaceful Sky ordinance. Mike Ruggles, who has filed a civil lawsuit against the county on the marijuana matter, had this to say:
The Council will be voting on the amended budget at two different readings over the next few weeks.
