The sound of the Engine 121 whistle sounded in Laupahoehoe on Saturday; it was a noise that has not been heard in the old sugar town for decades.
The National Train Day celebration also marked Laupahoehoe Train Museum’s 12th anniversary with food, hula, and the Zoo-Choo Train for the kids. There was even some railroad spike driving… just for fun.
The day gave museum directors, coordinated by Lisa Barton, a chance to show off all their restoration efforts.
This event was sponsored in part by the Hawaii Tourism Authority and County of Hawaii Research and Development.
