Final “catch all” sealed bid date on May 24
Hilo, Hawaii – It appears Hawaii County has cancelled the April 14th sealed bid opening in the sale of the Hamakua lands.
The 16 parcels of land located in Pa‘auilo have not enticed a buyer in two previous sealed bid openings. The third sealed bid opening was scheduled to take place on Wednesday in view of the public at the county building in Hilo.
However, the website constructed by the county to provide information about the land sale simply listed the word “cancelled” beneath the April 14 bid opening date. (paauilolandsales.com)
The county intended to sell the lands in order to balance the budget. After the second auction drew no bidders, officials conceded to the Hawaii Tribune-Herald newspaper that the prices could be overpriced at an average $8,593 per acre.
A fourth and final auction will take place on May 24, and will include all the Paauilo parcels that did not sell in the prior auctions.
