Some Kona residents are concerned about the possible impacts of a county plan to privatize green waste collection and disposal on the island.
The plan will save the Department of Environmental Management about $2 million dollars, and reportedly includes moving the green waste collection site at Kealakehe to Puuanahulu in January.
Cheryl King, who lives in Kailua-Kona, says the planned new location will be an inconvenience.
The Hawaii County Council passed an earlier ordinance banning organic material from landfills by 2012.
The Council will consider the new green waste plan on Wednesday, April 7th. The job must go out to bid.
