Its last call to provide your thoughts on the first phase of the Hamakua Community Development Plan, according to a notice released by the County Planning Department.
Planner Christian Kay announced “If you have not attended a CDP Talk Story or filled out a CDP Values and Vision Survey – Please fill out a survey & give us your input before it’s too late. You are the experts about your community & we need to hear from YOU!”
The survey for the input can be downloaded at the website, www.hamakuacdp.info, or by contacting one of the Community Liaisons:
•Lori Beach (Hāmākua/North Hilo) 775-8209, loribeach@hawaiiantel.net
•Farrah-Marie Gomes (Hāmākua/North Hilo) 937-4054, farrahmarie@yahoo.com
•Donna Johnson (Rural South Hilo) 895-6407, dnnjohn@hawaii.rr.com
According to the email being circulated, the Hamakua CDP Steering Committee recommendations are proceeding through the appropriate review channels for official County boards and commissions. Kay says he will send out a specific update when the Steering Committee is scheduled to be considered by the County Council.
The CDP effort is also looking for some “community experts”.
“Can you help us remember where we came from?” Kay asks. “Do you have old photos, maps, oral/written histories, or studies from around the Hāmākua CDP planning area? Please share your Hāmākua information with us! We are compiling a Community Profile that will strongly ground the CDP in Hāmākua’s history, local knowledge and culture, past planning efforts, and existing conditions. We want to create a complete picture of where we’ve been and how we got here in order to plan our future. We need your help to do this! Please check out our website under the folder “About the Hāmākua CDP Planning Area” to see what we’ve compiled so far & to get ideas of what you might be able to contribute. Any original documents you share can be scanned and returned.”
