Retired police officer Teruo Morigaki relays a few memories as a first responder during the devastating tsunami that swept through Hilo, Hawaii half a century ago.
Morigaki talked about the crude “early warning” system in place at the time, and suggests that in the future, first responders should always make sure their families are safe first, so they may devote themselves to themselves completely to the emergency.
Morigaki was one of the few historic personalities featured in the 7th Annual Tsunami Story Festival at Sangha Hall to accept the opportunity to say a few words at the podium.
