Heavy rainfall soaked the east side of the Big Island, and videographer Tim Bryan was out in the wet weather capturing the sights and sounds of the storm.
Flooding forced the closure of Kamehameha Avenue and Pauahi Street in Hilo, and the Wailuku River was a raging at dangerous volumes.
The National Weather Service tallied a December 26th record 9.84 inches of rain at Hilo Airport, which beats December 26, 1961 record of 3.56 inches. A flash flood warning was in effect for the entire day.
It was also reported that over a foot of rain fell in the Waiakea Uka area (12.61 inches) over a 24 hour period from 5 pm Thursday to 5pm Friday. Some flooding was experienced on the Hamakua Coast, and Laupahoehoe reported 12 inches of rain.
