December 7, 2008 – Pahoa, Hawaii
It was a Christmas parade unlike any other on the Big Island of Hawaii today, as the 2008 Pahoa Christmas Parade marched through town.
The family oriented holiday event featured a diverse group of floats and Puna organizations. Home constructed volcanos, beating drums, dogs, horses, and even Santa Claus (on a canoe, of course) were a part of the parade.
A panel of local judges awarded the honors of “best float” to Jungle Love, “best design” to the Pahoa Boys and Girls Club, “best keiki unit” to Pahoa Elementary, and “most enthusiastic” to Paradisimo Tropical Spa.
Damon Tucker, one of the four judges, has posted the full results on his website, with photos.
Afterwards, residents enjoyed a festive ho`olaulea at the town’s school complex.
