(BIVN) – A New Farmer Expo was held at the Gates Performing Arts Center on the campus of Hawai’i Preparatory Academy in Waimea on Saturday.
The Expo, open to the public with a $25 admission charge, provided participants “with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities that are associated with operating a successful farming enterprise on Hawai’i Island,” organizers said.
The event was coordinated in partnership with the USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA), The Kohala Center, and Pacific Gateway Center, and AgriLogic Consulting
The Expo featured panel discussions, a question & answer session with experienced farmers, and brief talks by island organizations on land acquisition, financing, training programs, crop choice, production methods, business planning, risk management, value-added products, branding, and marketing.
