HILO, Hawaii – On January 31, Paul Neves took the stand as a witness in the ongoing TMT contested case hearing.
Neves, a kumu hula and prominent member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha, has played a major role in the opposition to the $1.5 billion observatory proposed for the top of Mauna Kea. As a cultural practitioner he has conducted ceremonies on the mountain at least since 1999.
Neves participated in the first contested case hearing in 2011. This time around, he has taken a limited role in the proceeding due to health constraints.
The video above is a 20 minute minute summary edit showing of key moments of Neves’ testimony. We will also have some “breakout” videos from this testimony. Na Leo TV is covering the hearing live, gavel to gavel. The full archive can be found on the Na Leo TV Video on Demand page.
