HILO, Hawaii – As Mayor Billy Kenoi pushes to see other projects finished before his term is up, county-paid overtime has become an issue for some elected officials.
Hawaii County Councilman Aaron Chung has been trying to organize a briefing on the subject for a few weeks.
His focus is mainly on the Hilo Municipal Golf Course improvements.
“Its not to put them on the spot,” Chung said, “but with regard to best practices for the county these things should be looked at.”
Chung took Parks and Recreation officials to task for overtime costs on the $17 million golf course project during a September meeting. Efforts to bring the department back in to the Finance Committee for further discussion have been unsuccessful, apparently due to scheduling conflicts.
