HILO, Hawaii – Day two of the Thirty Meter telescope contested case hearing began in Hilo on Monday.
The proceeding picked up where it left off with the cross examination of planner Perry White, a witness called by the University of Hawaii at Hilo to explain how the observatory project is consistent with the resource subzone of the Mauna Kea conservation district.
An organization in favor of the TMT project, PUEO (Perpetuating Unique Educational Opportunities Inc.), had a chance to ask White questions on Monday. PUEO attorney Lincoln Ashida asked for specifics on how TMT would meet the eight criteria for a conservation district use permit.
