HONOLULU, Hawaii – A bill that would funds an economic assessment study on the “development and economic viability of a small satellite launch and processing facility” on Hawaii Island is still alve at the state legislature.
House Bill 2263 HD1 SD1 is now in conference committee, where state senators and representatives will try to come to an agreement on the specifics of the bill.
The Ka’u community has fought plans to create a commercial spaceport in the past. State Senator Russell Ruderman – who represents a portion of the Big Island’s southern-most district, opposed legislation in committee and on the floor of the senate during the bill’s final reading on April 12.
