WAIPIO VALLEY – A body was discovered in a Waipi’o Valley stream on Thursday afternoon, and police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Detectives have identified the man but are withholding his identity pending notification of his family.
At 5:56 p.m. Thursday (March 3), police responded to Waipio Valley after receiving a report of an unresponsive man in a small stream. Responding officers found the victim – a Caucasian male – partially submerged in the stream.
The body was recovered and taken to Hilo Medical Center, where the man was officially pronounced dead.
Police say the case is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest. The autopsy is scheduled to take place today (Friday March 4)
