POHOIKI, Hawaii – The popular Pohoiki surf spot in Puna was crowded this afternoon as high surf rolled in from Hurricane Ignacio.
Although the threat posed by Ignacio is diminishing as it tracks away from Hawaii Island, the hurricane did manage to kick up the ocean en route. The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Warning for East Hawaii, which has been extended until 6 am Wednesday. Wave heights 12 to 18 feet high are expected.
