HILO, Hawaii – The Hawaii Police Department’s 82nd Recruit Class was recognized on Friday at a ceremony held at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.
Loved ones pinned badges on the recruits, who just completed six months of intensive training. The new officers also reaffirmed their oaths. Ansel J. Robinson is the president of the recruit class.
The recruits also heard from dignitaries like Mayor Billy Kenoi and Dr. Christian Kimo Alameda.
Three of the new officers received special recognition for excellence. They were Michael Collings, who excelled in academic training, Christopher Fukumoto, for in firearms training, and Christopher Sugimoto, who excelled in physical fitness.
The recruits will now undergo four months of on-the-job field training with veteran police officers before they are qualified to work alone.
