Hawaii’s sacred volcano is again covered in snow this morning.
This video of Mauna Kea was taken from Hilo at 8:00 a.m., just after sunrise revealed a white summit.
The footage made available by the cameras located on the summit would normally show snow covered observatories, but today the video footage is mostly obscured by ice.
Winter weather closed the Visitor Information Service center at the 9,300 foot level due to ice and snow on summit roads. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon today for Big Island summits.
Meteorologists say more is on the way. The National Weather Service will likely issue a Winter Storm Watch from noon Wednesday through Thursday afternoon. A Flash Flood Watch will also be in effect for the same time.
The NWS service predicts a snow accumulation of up to 6 inches on the summit by Wednesday night.
